Supreme Sharks Great White Shark Tours
Our experienced and highly respected crew will take you on a journey of a lifetime whilst placing the highest priority on your safety and comfort. Choose to dive in a galvanized steel cage and meet this magnificent creature face to face. No diving experience is required and we provide all equipment. We accommodate both divers and non-divers.
Pick up from Cape Town and surrounds OR Hermanus can be arranged at an additional cost.
You might be interested in our breaching trips where clients can view sharks hunting in their natural habitat before doing the normal shark cage diving. These trips are specifically popular with the ardent photographer.
On request we collect guests, at an additional cost, from Cape Town or Hermanus and take you on a scenic drive to Kleinbaai, Gansbaai.
Pick up in Cape Town and surrounds will depend on your tours option. Enjoy a 2 to 3 hour drive to your destination.
On arrival at the clubhouse at 61 Kabeljou Street, Kleinbaai, we kick-off with breakfast while you complete the necessary paperwork. We explain how we work with the sharks in the area and how you will spend the next couple of hours diving and viewing these magnificent predators in their natural habitat. We do wetsuit fittings and provide you with a dry bag and towel. Remember to bring your swimwear, sunglasses and sunscreen!
After a short but entertaining safety briefing we take you on a 5-minute walk to the harbour.
The boat launches from Kleinbaai harbour and after about 20 minutes we anchor and start chumming the area around the boat. You are fully briefed on all procedures and the action begins as we wait for the first glimpse of a Great White shark. Whilst we wait for the first dorsal fin to appear guests change into their diving gear. Once we have spotted the Great White, the first 8 guests enter our galvanised steel cage for about 20 minutes for an adrenalin pumping encounter with a Great White shark.
You can enjoy surface viewing from our upper deck during your wait as shark activity is often close to the surface. In fact Great Whites are also known for their ‘spy hopping’ – breaching right out of the water in pursuit of prey, which makes great action shots. DON’T FORGET YOUR CAMERA!
After everyone has had their chance in the cage, this should take roughly 2 and a half hours (depending on shark activity) the journey back to the harbour begins.
Back on land, a group photo for our Facebook page is taken and then we head to the clubhouse for warm soup and fresh bread!
Supreme Sharks also offers the unique opportunity for clients to meet the free diving shark expert Andre Hartman on the trip or at the clubhouse. Andre is one of South Africa’s few self-taught shark experts and is respected as such throughout the world. He was one of the first to take the ‘cage’ out of shark cage diving and his pioneering work with the Great White attracted numerous film crews to Kleinbaai, the shark capital of the world.
Andre has featured in many documentaries for Discovery, CNN and National Geographic to name but a few. He received the name Shark Whisperer when he accidentally discovered that touching the tip of it’s snout would cause a shark to lung up and back in a trance-like manner for a few seconds. After his 2nd stroke he struggles to walk but is getting stronger every day and dreams of going back into the water with these fierce creatures. He now shares his knowledge of the Great White and multitude of stories with the crew and our passengers.
"I'm just mesmerized by how they move and what they do, and that fascinates me. They're like an airplane -- they fly in the water. Those wings flex with the weight of the body." Andre Hartman, African Voices, CNN 24 December 2014
